At the fifth edition of the European Championship Sand Sculpture Festival, created sculptors from different European countries in 2016 a collection of impressive sand sculptures. The sculptures were around 3,5m high, 3m wide and 3m deep. A total 200 tons of special sculpting sand was used.
The public could see the contestants at work at various locations throughout the village of Zandvoort aan Zee in The Netherlands.

In 2016 the theme was “Amsterdam Icons”. The reason is that Zandvoort aan Zee is also know as Amsterdam Beach. It was up to the competing artists to decide how to interpret this and how to translate it into their sand sculptures.
