Prior to 1966, large ships would anchor outside the entrance to the harbour and ferry their passengers to the dock. In December 2009 it accommodated the largest ship in the world. Officially named ‘Prince George Wharf’, the cruise ship terminal in Nassau is really known as Festival Place. Many services can be found just outside the building although some are inside the terminal. In or just outside the Festival Place the cruise ship passenger will find a tourist information desk with good maps and guides, and staff willing to provide all the necessary information about taxis, ferry boats or walking tours.

When it’s busy with cruise ships in Nassau, it’s really busy; seven ships can dock at the same time, meaning that there’s 15,000 to 20,000 cruise passengers roaming the streets all at once, heading for the outlying islands and crowding the restaurants and shops (along Bay Street) of the city.
