As a work island, Neeltje Jans is part of the Oosterscheldekering in Zeeland, the Netherland. After the completion of the Delta Works, an information and amusement park was opened on Neeltje Jans. In the information center you can see an exhibition about the Delta Works with (visual) information.

Neeltje Jans is approximately 285 hectares in size and is located halfway between the Oosterscheldekering between Schouwen and Noord-Beveland, but is nevertheless part of the municipality of Veere on Walcheren. The name Neeltje Jans was obtained by a boat that got stuck on the sandbar and that also bore that name, it is an old name for the patron goddess Nehalennia.
Neeltje Jans used to be a sandbank in the mouth of the Oosterschelde. By raising the sandbar, the work island was created, which was used at the time of the construction of the storm surge barrier. When the work was finished in 1986, Natuurmonumenten and Het Zeeuwse Landschap bought the island and transformed it into a nature reserve that is part of the Oosterschelde National Park.

There is also a remaining pillar at the island. This 66th pillar was made around 1980 along with the other pillars, in case one of the other pillars turned out to be faulty, but has never been put into use. Since then, the pier has stood alone in its dock. Later on a climbing center is located on the pillar. Wind turbines have been installed on Neeltje Jans since 1991. The initial eight smaller turbines have now been replaced by two wind farms of four turbines each. A third wind farm is now being built: Windpark Bouwdokken. The Radar Tower De Lange Neel has been on the island since 2016. The second stage of the Tour de France ended on Neeltje Jans in 2015.
