Six Days of Rotterdam (Cycling Race) in the Netherlands

The Six Days of Rotterdam is a six-day cycling race held in the Netherlands. For this purpose, a temporary cycling track will be laid in the Ahoy Arena. The Six Days of Rotterdam was first organized in 1936 and 1937 on a track that, after the failure of the Six Days of Amsterdam, was transferred from the old RAI in Amsterdam to the Nenyto building in Rotterdam.

Jan Pijnenburg and Cor Wals won this first edition. After that there was no more six days, until it came back in 1968. In the 1970s and 1980s, the Six Days of Rotterdam enjoyed great fame. However, no competition has been organized since 1988.

Sixteen years later, from January 6, 2005 to be precise, this sporting competition was revived. Frank Boelé, who was also the organizer of the Six Days of Amsterdam at the time, contributed to the organization. In 2018, the race management is in the hands of Michael Zijlaard and former six-day rider Peter Schep. The event got extra shine in 2005 with the farewell gala of the Dutch cyclist and four-time Olympic champion Leontien Zijlaard- van Moorsel.

Due to the great success of the six-days in 2005 and 2006, the twenty-fifth six-day was organized in Rotterdam in January 2007. Since then, the Six Days of Rotterdam has taken place at the beginning of every calendar year. In 2018, Kenny De Ketele and Moreno De Pauw won the 36th edition. In addition, the GPN/Provato Sprint Cup became a prey for BEAT Cycling Club. They won against Team Netherlands in a 6-day mutual sprint tournament in which Sprint, Keirin and Teamsprint were ridden. The track record of this 200 meter track was set on January 7, 2020 at 9,852 seconds by Harrie Lavreysen.
