Stieltjeskanaal (The Netherlands)

Stieltjeskanaal is a canal in the Netherlands and it is part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. It has an altitude of 11 meters (39 feet). The watercourse was constructed between 1880 and 1884. The Stieltjeskanaal was opened to shipping in November 1884. The canal owes its name to Thomas Johannes Stieltjes, who committed himself to its construction.

On March 21, 2017, the body of a 31-year-old man who had died of assault was found in the trunk of a car partially hanging in the canal. This as yet unsolved case is known as the trunk murder. In 2011, a car with the body of a man who had disappeared 5 years earlier was found at the same spot.
