On the Sluisjesdijk in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, an existing building from the 1950s has been transformed into the new basecamp for Royal Den Hartogh. The office was put into use in 2025.
The family business, a transport company of over 100 years old with branches worldwide, is moving to this location on the Nieuwe Maas. The ambition: a future-proof and inspiring working environment that is green, healthy and therefore unmistakably Den Hartogh.
The Sluisjesdijk, once a dike between the Maas and the polders, housed depots for petroleum. The industrial complex with offices and warehouses has a concrete skeleton and has been renovated in several periods, with steel structures being added on top of and to the building.
The transformation mainly involved restoring the old structure by removing later additions. In addition, many adjustments were made to provide the building with new stairwells, new installations and a new facade.
